Movement for a Pluralistic Society

In 2017, the Astana Platform resolved to continue its work, taking into account the outcome of the 2015 Astana meeting, during which the parties had agreed to draft a new constitution for Syria. Together with the CPFA, the Platform organised several meetings throughout the year, inviting Syrian constitutionalists, political opposition figures representing various political forces, and international experts such as French constitutional law scholar Xavier Latour, former Turkish Foreign Minister Yaşar Yakış, and former Italian Foreign Minister Giulio Terzi.

By the end of 2017, a draft of the Syrian constitution had been completed. During the same year, the Astana Platform also held a number of meetings with Russian officials regarding the Syrian Constitutional Committee, including discussions with Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu.

On 30 January 2018, Sochi hosted the Syrian National Dialogue Congress, during which the President of the Astana Platform called for the establishment of a Syrian Constitutional Committee (SCC), a proposal that was subsequently adopted.
